Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant:
Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or a Neonatal Physician Assistant to join our Level III NICU. Our team of inpatient pediatric providers delivers half the babies in the city and county of Denver and the NICU team staffs a 25 bed NICU that averages 350-400 admissions each year with an average census of 17. Our NICU is supported by four MFM specialist, a full compliment of on site pediatric subspecialists including surgery neurosurgery, radiology, anesthesia and Neurology. Our Under supervision of a neonatologist, provides care for newborns in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Well Baby Nursery. Functions as advanced practice provider (APP) during day and night for neonatal resuscitations and care of NICU patients, with cross-coverage of well-baby nursery patients. Performs procedures with residents. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students and medical residents as part of a multidisciplinary provider team. Manages systems-based care including documentation, communication, and discharge preparation. Participates in and leads programmatic initiatives in the NICU.
Essential Functions:
Provide patient care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Well Baby Nursery including follow-up planning. (50%)
Completes required chart documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. (10%)
Participates in night call along with pediatric residents. (10%)
Responsible for delivery room resuscitations and care of patients in the NICU and Well Baby Nursery. (10%)
Assists residents with procedures. (5%)
Participates in unit-based and departmental quality and safety work Denver Health initiatives including RIEs and Committees. (5%)
Teaches medical students, physician assistant students and nursing students, as well as pediatric and family medicine residents in NICU and Well Baby Nursery. (10%)
Perform newborn resuscitation, placement of arterial and venous lines and chest tubes, intubation of term, preterm, and extremely low birth weight infants, and manage invasive ventilatory support (<1%)
Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff.
