Description
The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care to students in our on-campus Student Health Center. Services include, but are not limited to: diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, sexual health care, basic gynecological care, management of stable chronic conditions and preventive medical care. In addition to providing direct patient care with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventative measures, the nurse practitioner shares responsibility for the provision of high-quality health care in compliance with state, federal, and ambulatory care requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provide primary care services of an acute, chronic and preventive nature to university student population as guided by organizational protocols and license to practice.
- Complete and record patient’s accurate medical history and physical exam.
- Examine patients and diagnosis their illnesses; recommend and administer routine treatment; refer patients when appropriate to other medical specialists.
- Establish a diagnosis and prescribe medication and/or treatments as indicated.
- Order and/or perform diagnostic tests and evaluate results.
- Maintain professional working relationships with co-workers.
- Maintain current licensure to practice, including timely completion of required continuing medical education.
- Seek and attend opportunities for ongoing professional development.
- Maintains organized, complete electronic medical records with regard to content appropriateness and confidentiality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Two years or more of experience as a nurse practitioner providing direct medical care, preferably in a primary care setting
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and care planning skills.
- Ability to work independently in most clinical situations.
- Ability to write prescriptions and order diagnostic testing.
- Skilled in the management of primary and acute care issues and injuries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to relay appropriate health care education to students regarding plan of care and preventative measures.
- Strong critical thinking and solution oriented problem-solving capacity skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication and interdisciplinary team member skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Electronic medical record and information technology skills.

Knowledge of the practice of medicine pertinent to adult medicine, family medicine, and primary care.
