Company Profile
Fresno Surgical Hospital
Company Overview
Fresno Surgical Hospital (FSH) in Fresno, California is a fully-licensed hospital created entirely to deliver excellence and quality in surgical care to each patient. Developed as an alternative to a traditional hospital setting, FSH is decidedly unique. The facility is a surgical hospital that more resembles a first-class hotel than a traditional hospital. FSH was the first facility in the United States to provide elective surgery and post-surgical care in a non-hospital setting. Overwhelming popularity among patients, surgeons and staff established FSH as the leader in the nationwide trend toward elective surgery facilities.
Each year, FSH serves approximately 8,200 patients in its Central California service area, including: Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings and Tulare Counties. The facility offers nine operating rooms and 31 private inpatient suites in which patients and their families enjoy an environment that promotes relaxation, comfort and healing. Each suite is equipped with hotel-like amenities. FSH also showcases unique artwork from regional artists, enjoyed by patients and their guests.
Fresno Surgical Hospital truly is unlike any other hospital in the nation. In fact, our quality surveys shows an average of 90.0% of patients rate FSH's overall service and nursing care as the best in town. While other healthcare institutions reduce services and ask their patients to accept less, FSH has remained committed to its model of continual innovation, unsurpassed service and premium technology. Through unparalleled efficiency and a focus toward its customer, FSH does so without risking safety, quality or affordability.
Company History
Founded by two orthopedic surgeons, Alan H. Pierrot, MD and Thomas Thaxter, MD who had a vision of improving healthcare, Fresno Surgery Center (FSC) opened as an outpatient surgery center in December 1984. Within its first year, FSC was in the top 10% of all freestanding outpatient surgery centers in the nation based on the number of patients served. Even more impressive was the facility's radical approach to customer service. A rare combination of hospitality and healthcare excellence has always been Fresno Surgical Center's distinguishing factor.
In September of 1988, FSC was designated by the California State Legislature as the first participant in a pilot project and opened its post-surgical recovery care center. This expanded FSC's scope of service to include overnight post-surgical care - the first facility in the nation to do so in a non-hospital setting.
To prepare for its new overnight patients, FSC worked with leading restaurants and hotels like the Ritz Carlton to develop its signature brand of legendary service including: a first-class kitchen led by experienced chefs, superior room service, staff trained in customer service techniques and a retreat-like ambiance unsurpassed in healthcare.
In April 1993, FSC embarked on yet another new beginning becoming licensed as an acute-care hospital. FSC continues to admit only surgery patients, but hospital licensure enables FSC to serve inpatients (including Medicare patients) without restrictions on the length of their recovery stay.
Fresno Surgery Center earned the Joint Commission gold seal of approval in December 2005. The Joint Commission’s gold seal is considered the gold standard in health care and is an internationally recognized symbol of quality. Earning accreditation reflects Fresno Surgery Center’s commitment to providing the highest level of patient safety and care. In 2006 Fresno Surgery Center was renamed the Fresno Surgical Hospital and continues to serve our patients with quality patient care.
