Description
The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a full-time Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgeon and/or Abdominal Wall fellowship trained surgeon to join our well-established Division of MIS and Bariatric Surgery.
Interested candidates should be dynamic, innovative individuals with experience, training, and interest in abdominal wall surgery. Expertise in complex abdominal wall surgery (open, laparoscopic and robotic), surgical endoscopy, and a willingness to practice general surgery as part of our MIS team is mandatory.
The successful applicant must have a strong interest in clinical practice and a demonstrated track record of research and educational accomplishments. The ideal applicant should have a desire to build a robust clinical practice while being integrally involved in the education and training of our MIS fellow, general surgery residents and medical students.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical:
- This position will support The Division in its effort to maintain and grow an existing busy abdominal wall reconstruction practice and assist with ongoing advanced surgical endoscopic needs.
- Elective surgical practice will be split between the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and East Madison Hospital (EMH) with a focus on robotic abdominal wall and endoscopic surgery.
- Call responsibilities for MIS/bariatric patients will be shared with divisional colleagues, and there will be minimal additional emergency general surgery call duties (approximately one to two shifts per month) primarily at the VA hospital and EMH.
- Academic Program
- A successfully recruited surgeon on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track will also direct and further develop our established abdominal wall focused health research program.
- Service and Teaching:
- Teach medical students, residents, and fellows
- Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
The University of Wisconsin Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery provides a complete spectrum of minimally invasive general surgery services including complex foregut surgery, advanced endoscopic procedures, abdominal wall surgery/reconstruction, comprehensive medical and surgical weight loss services in additional to the full breadth of general surgery. We offer open, laparoscopic, and robotic abdominal wall surgery via our Hernia Center, and maintain and run our own esophageal motility lab. Our MBSAQIP accredited bariatric surgery program provides medical weight loss services with the help of a full-time medical bariatrician as well as an integrated and comprehensive multi-disciplinary team which delivers all aspects of care in obesity medicine. We also have a Fellowship Council accredited Advanced GI/MIS fellowship that trains one fellow per year.
Required Qualifications:
- Wisconsin Medical license by start date of position.
- Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent by appointment start date
- Completion of an Advanced Abdominal Wall Fellowship or a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship with a focus in Abdominal Wall Surgery by the appointment start date
Education:
- MD or DO, or equivalent required
