DIRECTOR OF PERIOPERATIVE ACUPUNCTURE

Position Summary
The Department of Anesthesiology seeks an innovative and collaborative physician leader to serve as Director of Perioperative Acupuncture. This position will lead the development, implementation, and growth of a comprehensive perioperative acupuncture program designed to enhance patient outcomes across the surgical continuum.
The Director will work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, perioperative nursing leadership, acute pain specialists, and hospital administration to integrate evidence-based acupuncture services into multimodal perioperative care pathways, including Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) initiatives. Expansion of perioperative acupuncture services is a strategic priority of the department.
Clinical Leadership:
- Establish and direct a comprehensive perioperative acupuncture service.
- Develop clinical workflows for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative acupuncture interventions.
- Collaborate with perioperative services, acute pain management, and ERAS programs.
- Ensure high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Program Development:
- Build and grow acupuncture services throughout Albany Medical Center.
- Develop policies, protocols, documentation standards, and quality metrics.
- Work with departmental and institutional leadership to identify opportunities for service expansion.
Education:
- Educate faculty, residents, students, CRNAs, and other healthcare professionals regarding perioperative acupuncture applications.
- Develop curricular content and continuing education programs related to acupuncture and integrative perioperative medicine.
Research and Scholarship:
- Lead and support clinical research initiatives focused on perioperative acupuncture and multimodal pain management.
- Collaborate with departmental investigators and external institutions.
- Publish and present scholarly work at regional and national meetings.
Quality and Outcomes:
- Evaluate program effectiveness through patient-centered outcomes, opioid utilization, patient satisfaction measures, and perioperative recovery metrics.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
Required:
- MD or DO degree.
- Board certification in Anesthesiology.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in New York State.
- Completion of formal medical acupuncture training.
- Eligible to obtain Certification to use Acupuncture in New York State
- Demonstrated interest in perioperative medicine, pain management, or integrative medicine.
Preferred:
- Diplomate status with the American Board of Medical Acupuncture (ABMA).
- Prior experience developing or managing an acupuncture program.
- Academic experience in teaching and scholarly activity.
- Research experience related to perioperative outcomes, acupuncture, pain management, or ERAS pathways.
Academic Appointment:
Academic rank and appointment at Albany Medical College will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

NEWLY APPROVED PAY PLAN!
- Competitive base salary range: $450,000k-$550,000k
- Work within flexible staffing pattern within 40-hr work week
- Call and No Call tracks available
- Plenty of additional opportunities for extra call and overtime pay
- Annual bonus of 5% of base salary
- Generous sign-on bonus up to $45,000 and relocation up to $10,000.
